Creative skills alive and well in Guernsey
We are delighted to be sponsoring the premiere of a new short film ‘Sands of Purgatory’ being held at Princess Royal Centre for Performing Arts on Thursday 2 April 2026. The film has been produced by White Rock Productions, headed up by Alex Bates – the latest project by this up-coming local film-making company. Shortlisted for seven awards at this month’s Glowfare Short Film Festival and also selected for screening at the 2026 Harrogate Film Festival, ‘Sands of Purgatory’ is a showcase of local talent including an amazing production team, a lineup of impressive cast members and a soundtrack written by award-winning local composer Lydia Jane Pugh.
About Alex
Alex is a Guernsey-born filmmaker and a graduate of the Northern Film School. After graduating in 2020, he returned to Guernsey and has since become known for creating ambitious short films rooted in history, local identity, and cinematic spectacle. These include (amongst others):
‘Occupied’ – A historical drama about the White Rock bombing, written and directed by Alex. The film premiered at Beau Sejour to an audience of 400 and had 36 screenings at the Mallard Cinema, including sold-out showings.
‘Born of Water’ – A dramatic survival story set during the 1372 invasion of Guernsey by Owen of Wales.
‘Sands of Purgatory’ – In a post-apocalyptic wasteland, the vengeful Artemis hunts the cult who took everything.
Delimited is proud to be involved with this event, both as a team of avid film afficionados, and to be able to support this young company in its latest project. Creative talent in Guernsey is most definitely alive and well!
